About this worksheet
Energy is the ability to do work or cause change, and it comes in several forms that can change into one another. This worksheet teaches the five forms students meet most often – heat, light, sound, electrical, and mechanical – and the habit of asking what an object is mainly producing or using in order to name the energy at work.
Section A lists eight everyday examples (a flashlight, a drum, a campfire, a battery-powered robot, a rolling ball, a stove burner, a doorbell, a coasting bicycle) and asks students to name the main form of energy in each. The mix gives two clear examples each of several forms so students apply the test rather than guess. The reference box defines each form and gives transformation examples but names none of the eight Section A items.
Section B is short-answer on page 2. Students define energy, list three forms, trace the energy flowing into and out of a lamp (electrical in; light and heat out), and give a home example of energy changing form. Page 3 is a complete answer key. The skill underpins later work on energy transfer and conservation.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and have students name one device for each form of energy.
Complete Section A independently – have students ask ‘what is this object mainly producing or using?’
Discuss Section B item 3 (a lamp: electrical in, light and heat out) to introduce energy transformation.
Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check or teacher review.
Pair with the Heat and Temperature, Light, or Sound Worksheet to go deeper on a single form.
