Lesson Overview

About this worksheet

People learn about the world through five senses, and each uses a different body part: we see with our eyes, hear with our ears, smell with our nose, taste with our tongue, and feel with our skin. This worksheet teaches young students the five senses and the matching body parts.

Section A gives eight everyday situations (reading a book, sniffing cookies, eating a lemon, petting a blanket) and asks students to name the sense used. The set covers all five senses, with two each for sight, hearing, and touch. The reference box teaches the senses and body parts but uses different examples than the items.

Section B is short-answer. Students list the five senses, name the body part for taste, give two senses used while eating an apple, and recall that senses send messages to the brain. Page 3 is a complete answer key. The skill is a first step into life science and the human body.

How to Use This Lesson

Read the reference box aloud and point to the eye, ear, nose, tongue, and skin.

Complete Section A independently – have students ask which body part does the work.

Discuss Section B item 3 (an apple uses several senses) as a class.

Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check or teacher review.

Pair with the Human Body Systems Worksheet or the Living and Nonliving Things Worksheet for a life-science mini-unit.
