Lesson Overview

About this worksheet

Energy never disappears – it changes from one form to another in a transformation. A toaster turns electrical energy into heat, and a wind turbine turns the motion of the wind into electricity. This worksheet helps students name the main energy change in familiar machines and actions.

Section A on page 1 gives eight everyday examples – a toaster, a solar panel, a campfire, a doorbell, and more – and asks students to write the main change in the form ‘one form to another.’ The reference box teaches with a lamp and a clap, which are not reused in any item.

Section B on page 2 asks what an energy transformation is, names three forms of energy, identifies a flashlight’s change, and asks for an example with its two forms. Page 3 is a complete answer key with sample answers. The skill builds on forms of energy and potential and kinetic energy.

How to Use This Lesson

Read the reference box aloud and walk through the lamp and clap examples.

Complete Section A independently – have students ask ‘what form goes in, and what comes out?’

Discuss that many devices make heat as an extra output.

Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check.

Pair with the Forms of Energy Worksheet or the Potential and Kinetic Energy Worksheet.
