Lesson Overview

About this worksheet

A convection current forms when warm, less-dense fluid rises and cool, denser fluid sinks, making a circular flow. This worksheet teaches the key terms – heat, fluid, density, and convection – and how convection currents drive wind, ocean currents, and the motion of Earth’s mantle.

The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box defines the key terms. Section A has eight clues to match to the correct term. Section B on page 2 has four short-response questions.

Page 3 is a complete answer key with answers for every item. The worksheet pairs well with the Heat Transfer and Plate Tectonics worksheets.

How to Use This Lesson

Read the reference box and review the terms.

Match each clue to its term in Section A on page 1.

Answer the four short-response questions in Section B on page 2.

Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check.
