Lesson Overview

About this worksheet

This is the basic level in a leveled set of three Kindergarten alphabet worksheets. Every level is Kindergarten – they step up by skill so a teacher can hand each child the right one: uppercase letters, lowercase letters, then matching and alphabetical order. This one covers the uppercase (capital) letters A to Z.

The worksheet moves through four kinds of practice. Children read every capital letter on a card, trace the whole alphabet on guide lines, circle every copy of one target letter hidden in a grid, then trace and write letters on primary handwriting lines. It builds the core Kindergarten skills of naming and forming the uppercase letters.

The last page is a complete Teacher Answer Key. It notes how many times the target letter appears and what to look for in the tracing and writing, so an aide or parent can check a child’s work quickly.

How to Use This Lesson

Point to each capital letter on the cards and name it together, then have children read them on their own.

Model tracing the first few letters, reminding children to start each letter at the top.

Have children circle every copy of the target letter in the grid and count how many they found.

Have children trace the gray letters on the handwriting lines, then write each one more time.

Use the answer key to check, and hand a ready child the Standard (lowercase) level of this set.
