About This Reading Comprehension Worksheet

This 4-page reading comprehension worksheet features a nonfiction passage titled “Turkeys.” Students learn surprising facts including: turkeys have no feathers on their heads or necks; they take dust baths to repel insects; males (toms) are more colorful than females (hens) and have wattles; wild turkeys can fly at 50 mph and run at 12 mph; and turkeys are social, playful birds that remember people and react to music.

After reading the one-page passage, students answer 5 comprehension questions on page 2 (multiple-choice and short-answer) and 1 opinion/writing prompt on page 3. An answer key is provided on page 4.

Recommended for Grades 3–5. Works well as part of a science or social studies unit on birds, farm animals, or animal adaptations — or as a Thanksgiving-themed reading activity.
