About this worksheet
A moral is a rule about how to behave, spelled out for the reader; a theme is the bigger idea about life a whole story explores, and it is almost never stated. This worksheet teaches students to tell the two apart, and to tell both apart from the topic.
The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box defines theme, moral, topic, fable, universal, stated, implied, and evidence. Section A has eight clues to match to the correct term. Section B on page 2 has four short-response questions.
Page 3 is a complete answer key with answers for every item. The worksheet pairs well with the Theme and The Moral of a Story worksheets.
