About This Reading Comprehension Worksheet
This 4-page reading comprehension worksheet is titled “The New Kite.” Students read a short story about Sue Ellen, who has been waiting to fly her new blue kite with red stars — a birthday present. On a perfect windy day at the park, she gets the kite soaring high, but a strong gust blows it out of her hands and into the top of a large oak tree.
After reading the story, students answer 3 multiple-choice questions on page 2 and 2 short-answer questions on page 3, including a prediction question asking what they think happens next. An answer key is provided on page 4.
Recommended for Grades 1–2. Works well as a beginning guided-reading or independent reading activity focused on story details and making predictions.
