About this worksheet
Every poem has a speaker, the voice that says the words, and that speaker is not automatically the poet. This worksheet teaches students to describe a speaker from tone, audience, and setting, and to back the description with lines from the poem.
The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box defines speaker, poet, persona, tone, audience, setting, first person, and evidence. Section A has eight clues to match to the correct term. Section B on page 2 has four short-response questions.
Page 3 is a complete answer key with answers for every item. The worksheet pairs well with the Analyzing a Poem and Point of View worksheets.
