About this worksheet
Finding a simile in a list is easy; finding one inside a paragraph, while also following the story, is the skill that transfers to real reading. This worksheet uses an original passage rather than isolated sentences.
Section A asks students to locate all six similes in the passage. Section B asks what each one adds that a plain word would not, and includes one comparison that uses neither as nor like, so students have to apply the definition rather than hunt for a keyword.
The passage’s similes are original rather than the familiar stock phrases, so a student cannot find them by recognizing a phrase they already know.
