About this worksheet
A rhyme scheme is the pattern of rhyming lines in a poem, labeled with letters such as AABB or ABAB. This worksheet teaches students to assign letters to end rhymes and to recognize couplets and alternating rhyme.
The reference box and three short poems are on page 1. The reference box explains how to label a scheme and defines a couplet, with two examples. Section A on page 2 has eight questions about the three poems, including labeling each scheme. Section B on page 3 has four short-response questions and asks students to write their own couplet.
Page 4 is a complete answer key with the scheme for each poem and sample answers. The worksheet pairs well with the Poetry Elements and Writing a Cinquain worksheets.
