About this worksheet
A timeline is a text feature that shows events in the order they happened, placed along a line from earliest to latest. Reading left to right moves you forward in time, so a timeline shows what came first, what came next, and how much time passed between events. This worksheet helps students read a timeline closely and use it to answer questions.
Section A on page 1 gives eight questions about a class-pet hamster timeline (Monday it arrived; Tuesday it learned its name; Thursday it ran on its wheel; Friday it had babies), written out in the reference box. The reference box teaches the idea first with a separate tree timeline that is not reused in any question.
Section B on page 2 asks students what a timeline shows, where the earliest event is placed, why a timeline is helpful, and to list three events of their own in timeline order. Page 3 is a complete answer key. The skill builds toward sequencing and reading nonfiction text features.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and trace the tree timeline from earliest to latest.
Complete Section A using the hamster timeline in the reference box.
Work Section B item 12 together: list three morning events in timeline order.
Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check; Section B answers will vary.
