About This Reading Comprehension Worksheet

This 4-page reading comprehension worksheet is titled “Noises in the Night.” Students read a two-page fiction story about siblings Maggie and Ben, who are camping with their mom. The children hear a frightening roaring noise in the dark and imagine it might be a gorilla, a bear, or an alligator. When they bravely crawl out to investigate, they discover the noise is coming from their mom’s tent — it’s just snoring.

After reading the story, students answer 4 multiple-choice comprehension questions on page 3. A short-answer prompt asks students to write about something that scares them and draw a picture of their expression. An answer key is provided on page 4.

Recommended for Grades 2–3. Works well as a guided reading activity or independent practice focused on story sequence, drawing conclusions, and reading for details.
