About this worksheet
Hyperbole is a figure of speech that uses extreme exaggeration to make a point, such as ‘I’ve told you a million times.’ This worksheet teaches students to recognize hyperbole as figurative language and to tell it apart from literal statements.
The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box defines hyperbole, exaggeration, literal, figurative, effect, emphasis, and understatement. Section A has eight clues to match to the correct term, including a hyperbole-or-literal example. Section B on page 2 has four short-response questions.
