Lesson Overview
About this worksheet
A frame story is a story set inside another story: an outer part called the frame shows someone about to tell a tale, the inner story is the main tale they tell, and the story returns to the frame to close. This worksheet uses an original passage in which Grandpa, drinking tea on a rainy day, frames an inner story about being lost on Marble Mountain.
The reference box and the passage are on page 1. Section A on page 2 gives eight questions, and students separate the outer frame from the inner story and trace how the passage returns to the frame. The reference box teaches the frame with a different example, so the questions stay independent of the model.
Section B on page 3 asks students to define a frame story, name the frame and inner story in the passage, and plan a frame of their own. Page 4 is a complete answer key with sample answers. The skill builds on flashback, plot structure, and point of view.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box and passage aloud and mark where the inner story begins and ends.
Complete Section A on page 2 independently.
Discuss how the frame changes the way the inner story feels.
Use the answer key on page 4 for self-check.
Pair with the Flashback Worksheet or the Plot Structure Worksheet.
