Lesson Overview
About this worksheet
A flashback and foreshadowing both pull a story out of plain time order, but they face opposite ways: one reaches back, the other points forward. This worksheet teaches students to tell them apart and to name what each one does for a reader.
The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box defines flashback, foreshadowing, chronological, nonlinear, backstory, transition, suspense, and payoff. Section A has eight clues to match to the correct term. Section B on page 2 has four short-response questions.
Page 3 is a complete answer key with answers for every item. The worksheet pairs well with the Flashback and Foreshadowing worksheets.
