About the Story
“Dar the Dancing Dragon” is a short, easy-to-read story written for early readers in kindergarten through grade 2. The story follows a dragon named Dar who lives in a big, dark cave with many other dragons. The cave is quiet and a little gloomy because the other dragons do not like music. But Dar loves to dance. Even with no music to dance to, Dar dances and dances. The other dragons watch and start to think that maybe dancing looks like fun after all. With a friendly invitation, Dar shows them that joy can be shared with anyone — and the dragons in the cave learn something new about themselves.
“Dar the Dancing Dragon” teaches young readers about kindness, persistence, and the courage to be different. Dar does not stop dancing just because no one else will join him. He also does not get angry at the other dragons for being grumpy. He simply keeps doing what he loves — and eventually, his happiness becomes contagious. By the end of the story, Dar has earned a new name: Dar the Dancing Dragon.
