About this worksheet
People can tell about the same event in different ways, each focusing on different details or feelings. To compare two accounts, a reader finds what both include, what only one includes, and how each one feels about the event. This worksheet teaches that the two together give a fuller picture than either alone.
Page 1 gives two short original accounts of the same school bake sale – a factual newsletter (Account A) and a personal journal entry (Account B). Section A on page 2 lists eight details and asks students to mark each Account A, Account B, or both (for example, the exact money raised is in A only; feeling exhausted and proud is in B only). The reference box teaches the skill without naming the bake-sale details.
Section B on page 3 is short-answer: students name a shared detail, a detail unique to each account, the difference in feeling, and why reading both helps. Page 4 is a complete answer key. The skill builds toward Synthesizing Across Texts.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box and both accounts aloud.
Complete Section A independently, deciding A, B, or both for each detail.
Discuss Section B item 12 (the difference in feeling) as a class.
Use the answer key on page 4 for self-check or teacher review.
