About this worksheet
Two very different stories can share the same theme, or lesson about life. This worksheet teaches students to find the theme of each text and to compare how two stories deliver the same message in different ways.
The reference box and two short passages are on page 1. The reference box explains how to find and compare themes. Section A on page 2 has eight questions about both passages, including the shared theme and how the stories differ. Section B on page 3 has four short-response questions about shared themes.
Page 4 is a complete answer key with answers drawn from both passages and sample responses. The worksheet pairs well with the Theme and Synthesizing Across Texts worksheets.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box and both passages on page 1.
Answer the eight questions in Section A on page 2.
Answer the four short-response questions in Section B on page 3.
Use the answer key on page 4 for self-check.
