About this worksheet

An allusion is a brief reference to a well-known person, place, event, myth, or text that a writer expects readers to know. This worksheet teaches students that allusions often come from mythology, history, and literature, and how to use context to recognize them.

The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box defines allusion, reference, mythology, history, literature, context, recognize, and source. Section A has eight clues to match to the correct term. Section B on page 2 has four short-response questions.

Page 3 is a complete answer key with answers for every item. The worksheet pairs well with the Context Clues and Figurative Language worksheets.
