What’s included

  • The Northeast, Midwest, South and West, each in its own color with a key
  • A heavy line where one region meets the next
  • Each state’s two-letter abbreviation
  • Alaska and Hawaii in boxes, a compass rose and a scale bar
  • Color and black & white versions

About these maps

The states are drawn from the U.S. Census Bureau’s state outlines in an equal-area projection, so each state’s size is true compared with the others. Alaska and Hawaii are shown in boxes at the lower left, not in their true places, and Alaska is drawn smaller than its true size.
