United States
A blank map, the states named, their postal abbreviations, the states and capitals, and the four Census regions. Alaska and Hawaii are shown in boxes.
The World
A blank world map, the seven continents and five oceans, and a world map with latitude and longitude every 15 degrees.
How the maps are drawn
The states come from the U.S. Census Bureau’s state outlines, drawn so every state’s size is true compared with the others. The world maps use Natural Earth’s country outlines. Small eastern states are named in a column beside the map, with a line to each one.
Classroom use ideas
- Hand out the blank map after studying the labeled one, as a quiz.
- Keep the states and capitals map in folders as a reference.
- Color each region, then compare land, climate and industry.
- Find places from their coordinates on the latitude and longitude map.
