A printable map worksheet of the 16 states in the Census Bureau’s South region: each state is numbered on a zoomed-in map, and students write its name on the numbered line, using a word bank. Answer key included.

What’s included
- A zoomed-in map of the South, each of its 16 states numbered
- The neighboring states in gray, so students see where the region sits
- A word bank of the 16 states in ABC order, and a numbered line for each
- An answer key on page 2
- Color and black & white versions
About these maps
The states are drawn from the U.S. Census Bureau’s state outlines in an equal-area projection, so each state’s size is true compared with the others. The regions are the four the Census Bureau uses: the Northeast, Midwest, South and West.
How the numbers work
The states are numbered in reading order, from the top of the map down and west to east, and the word bank is in ABC order, so the lines cannot be filled by copying the bank from top to bottom. A state too small to hold its number has it printed on the water beside it, with a line to the state.
