1st Grade Math Morning Work

Twelve weeks of daily math review, in order. Each week revisits the previous week’s work on Friday, so a Friday dip usually points at the earlier skill rather than the current one.

• Week 1: Adding and Subtracting to 10 — single-digit sums and differences, no regrouping. Free
• Week 2: Counting Patterns to 100 — counting on and back by 1s, 2s and 5s.
• Week 3: Comparing Two-Digit Numbers — greater than, less than and equal to.
• Week 4: Two-Digit Addition and Subtraction — two-digit work without regrouping.
• Week 5: Tens and Ones — place value in two-digit numbers.
• Week 6: Week 6 Review — all five weeks, mixed.
• Week 7: Adding with Regrouping — carrying a ten for the first time.
• Week 8: Subtracting with Regrouping — borrowing a ten for the first time.
• Week 9: Counting On and Back — skip counting in both directions.
• Week 10: Ordering Numbers — putting a set in order, not just comparing two.
• Week 11: Reading and Writing Numbers — expanded form and number words.
• Week 12: Week 12 Review — weeks 7 to 11, mixed.

1st Grade ELA Morning Work

Twelve weeks of daily reading and language review. Each sheet is four word-work items and two written items; Wednesday and Friday add a short passage with two questions about it.

• Week 1: Short a and Short i — short vowel sounds and sentence capitals. Free
• Week 2: Short e, o and u — the last three short vowels and naming words.
• Week 3: Sight Words — the words that do not sound out.
• Week 4: Digraphs sh and ch — two letters, one sound.
• Week 5: Week 5 Review — all four weeks, mixed.
• Week 6: Digraphs th and wh — two more letter pairs, one sound.
• Week 7: Long a and Long i with Silent e — the e that changes the vowel.
• Week 8: Blends — two letters, two sounds, said together.
• Week 9: Long o and Long u with Silent e — the last two silent-e vowels.
• Week 10: More Sight Words — the primer list.
• Week 11: Adding s and -ing — the first two word endings.
• Week 12: Week 12 Review — weeks 7 to 11, mixed.

How to use morning work

Print a packet once at the start of the week and hand out one sheet a day. Each sheet is six items and takes about 10–15 minutes. Students can start without instruction, so the sheets cover the part of the morning when you are taking attendance, chasing notes and settling the room.

Mark the week as a set on Friday rather than page by page. Five short sheets on the same skills show you a pattern; one sheet on its own mostly shows you whether a child was awake.
