About this worksheet

Two-digit division by a single-digit divisor is the bridge between division facts and full long division with two-digit divisors. This worksheet practices the place-value approach: break the dividend into tens and ones, divide each in turn, and combine the partial quotients.

A reference box at the top of page 1 demonstrates the strategy on a non-reused example, 84 divided by 4. Tens first: 8 tens divided by 4 = 2 tens. Ones next: 4 ones divided by 4 = 1 one. Combine: 2 tens and 1 one is 21. So 84 divided by 4 = 21.

Section A practices the place-value-clean cases where the divisor splits both the tens and ones evenly. Section B introduces remainders, with students writing both the quotient and the remainder on labeled blanks. Section C mixes the two so students must decide for themselves whether a remainder is needed.

Page 3 is a complete answer key with quotients and remainders for every item, organized by section for fast student self-check or aide spot-check.

How to Use This Lesson

Warm up by reading the reference box aloud and modeling the tens-then-ones approach on the whiteboard.

Use Section A (no remainder) for guided practice; have students name the tens-place quotient before the ones-place quotient.

Use Section B (with remainder) for independent practice; explain the remainder format (‘quotient R remainder’).

Use Section C (mixed) for additional practice; flag for students that some items leave no remainder.

Use Section D (word problems) as a 5-minute exit ticket; the third problem explicitly asks for the remainder.

Use the answer key on page 3 for student self-check or aide spot-check.
