About this worksheet

The distributive property lets you multiply a number by a sum by multiplying each part separately. This worksheet teaches a(b + c) = ab + ac and how to expand expressions with variables.

The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box works an example over addition and one over subtraction. Section A has six expressions to simplify, including two with variables. Section B on page 2 has four word problems.

Page 3 is a complete answer key with worked answers for every problem. The worksheet pairs well with the Order of Operations and Writing Algebraic Expressions worksheets.
