About this worksheet
This worksheet teaches students to count counters in a ten frame and write the number, using a full row as five and a full frame as ten. The reference box shows how a ten frame works in two sentences a teacher can read aloud, and every item is a real two-by-five frame with solid counters in it — the picture is the problem.
Section A on page 1 has five ten frames within ten. Section B on page 2 has six items with two frames side by side: the first frame is always full, so the reference box and the directions both tell a child to say TEN and count on rather than start again at one. Page 3 is the answer key.
It comes in two editions: a full-color PDF and a low-ink black-and-white PDF for everyday copying, both with the same answer key.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box together and point to the two rows of five.
Count the counters in each frame in Section A and write the number in the box.
Count across both frames in Section B, starting at ten when the first frame is full.
Check the answer key on page 3.
