Telling Time Worksheets for Teachers
Printable worksheets for K–3 classrooms. Reading analog clocks by the hour, half-hour, and quarter-hour — plus time vocabulary and word problems.
What Students Practice
These worksheets walk students through telling time step by step — from reading the hour all the way to solving time-based word problems.
Reading the Hour
Identify the hour on an analog clock face. The foundational first step — students learn to read when the minute hand points to 12.
Hours and Half-Hours
Read clock times set to :00 and :30. Builds the concept of the half-hour and where the minute hand falls at the 30-minute mark.
Quarter Hours
Read times at :00, :15, :30, and :45. Introduces the quarter-hour concept for students ready to move beyond half-hours.
Time Word Matching
Match numeric time notation to written words — for example, 8:10 to “Eight Ten.” Reinforces time vocabulary and connects digital and written formats.
Time Word Problems
Solve real-world word problems involving time. Reinforces addition and subtraction in the context of daily schedules. Best for Grade 2 and above.
Writing the Time
Write the digital time shown on an analog clock drawing. Multiple worksheet formats: tracing, fill-in-the-blank, and open response.

Using Telling Time Worksheets in Class
Telling time is one of the most practical math skills in early elementary. These worksheets work best when introduced gradually — starting with hour-only reading, then half-hours, then quarter-hours — and paired with a physical demonstration clock students can move alongside the printed page.
- Start with hour-only worksheets before introducing half-hours or quarter-hours
- Use the tracing format for K–1 students still learning to write numerals
- Pair clock worksheets with a hands-on demonstration clock
- Use word problems as a warm-up or exit ticket for Grade 2 and above
- For time word matching, have students read the time aloud before writing the word form
- Review quarter-hour practice before time assessments in Grade 2
