Lesson Overview
About this worksheet
The slope of a line measures its steepness as rise over run, the change in y divided by the change in x. This worksheet teaches the slope formula and the meaning of positive, negative, and zero slope, then has students compute slope from coordinate pairs.
The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box works one example and explains the sign of the slope. Section A has six pairs of points to find the slope between. Section B on page 2 has four word problems, including a ramp.
Page 3 is a complete answer key with worked answers for every problem. The worksheet pairs well with the Coordinate Plane Basics and Line Graphs worksheets.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box and review the rise-over-run formula.
Find the slope for the six point pairs in Section A on page 1.
Solve the four word problems in Section B on page 2.
Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check.
Pair with the Coordinate Plane Basics Worksheet for more practice.
