About this worksheet
Skip counting means counting by a number bigger than one – you add the same amount each time and skip the numbers in between. It is a fast way to count equal groups and it builds directly toward multiplication. This worksheet gives students practice skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s.
Section A gives eight skip-counting patterns, each with one missing number, across counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s. Students figure out the step and fill in the blank. The reference box teaches the idea with by-2s, by-5s, and by-10s examples and the find-the-step strategy not reused as items.
Section B is short-answer. Students define skip counting, name the step for counting by 5s, list the 10s from 10 to 50, and use skip counting by 2s to count 6 pairs of socks. Page 3 is a complete answer key. The skill is a bridge from counting to multiplication.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and chant by 2s, by 5s, and by 10s together.
Complete Section A independently – have students find the step before filling the blank.
Work the last Section B item together: count six pairs of socks by 2s (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12).
Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check or teacher review.
Pair with the Multiplication Facts 0-5 Worksheet or the Even and Odd Numbers Worksheet for a number-sense mini-unit.
