Lesson Overview
About this worksheet
This worksheet asks students to skip count their way out of a maze. Wherever the path splits, one square carries the next number in the count and the other carries a number that is not in it, so the counting is what decides the turn rather than trial and error.
Section A on page 1 counts by 3s and Section B on page 2 counts by 4s, the two steps that lead most directly into multiplication. Section C asks students to continue six counts in writing, and none of its answers is printed on either maze, so it cannot be finished by looking back. Page 3 shows both routes solved.
It comes in two editions: a full-color PDF and a low-ink black-and-white PDF for everyday copying, both with the same answer key.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box and say the first few numbers of each count aloud.
Start at START and work out the next number before choosing a turn.
Trace the route in pencil so a wrong turn can be backed up.
Finish Section C, then check every answer on page 3.
