About this worksheet
This worksheet teaches students to find the part of a picture pattern that repeats and name what comes next. The patterns are rows of pictures, so a child reads the rhythm of the row instead of decoding letters.
Section A on page 1 has five patterns with a core of two or three pictures. Section B on page 2 has six with cores of three or four, including doubles and one core of four different pictures. Every blank is close to an inch square, big enough for a five-year-old to draw in. Page 3 is the answer key, which names the picture that comes next.
It comes in two editions: a full-color PDF and a low-ink black-and-white PDF for everyday copying, both with the same answer key.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box and clap a simple pattern together.
Say each Section A pattern out loud, find the part that repeats, and draw what comes next.
Do the same for the longer cores in Section B.
Check the answer key on page 3.
