About this worksheet

A compound event is made of two or more simple events; when they are independent, the probability that both happen is P(A and B) = P(A) x P(B). This worksheet teaches the multiplication rule with a tree diagram and has students compute probabilities.

The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box shows a tree diagram of flipping a coin twice. Section A has six probability problems. Section B on page 2 has four word problems.

Page 3 is a complete answer key with the probability for every problem. The worksheet pairs well with the Simple Probability and Reading Tables worksheets.

How to Use This Lesson

Read the reference box and study the tree diagram.

Find each probability in Section A on page 1.

Solve the four word problems in Section B on page 2.

Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check.

Pair with the Simple Probability Worksheet for more practice.
