About this worksheet
Counting out loud and knowing what comes next are two different things, and this sheet works the second one. Each row shows a short run of numbers with one taken out; the student says the numbers on either side of the blank and writes the one that is missing.
Sections A and B on pages 1 and 2 cover the range to twenty, with the later rows sitting in the teens where the counting words stop being predictable. Section C is a connect-the-dots picture whose dots are numbered in counting order, so a student who skips a number can see it in the line they drew.
Page 3 is the answer key and includes the finished picture.
It comes in two editions: a full-color PDF and a low-ink black-and-white PDF for everyday copying, both with the same answer key.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the number line in the reference box aloud together.
Say the numbers on each side of a blank before writing anything.
Complete Sections A and B.
Connect the dots in Section C from 1 onward, then check page 3.
