About this worksheet

A negative exponent means take the reciprocal of the base raised to the positive exponent, so a to the negative n equals 1 over a to the n. This worksheet teaches the rule with worked examples and has students rewrite and evaluate powers.

The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box states the rule and works two examples. Section A has six powers to rewrite as fractions. Section B on page 2 has four short questions.

Page 3 is a complete answer key. The worksheet pairs well with the Exponents and Scientific Notation worksheets.
