About this worksheet
Students who plot confidently in the first quadrant often stall the moment a coordinate turns negative, because counting left and counting down are the two directions nothing in the first quadrant ever asked for. This sheet puts most of the drawing below and to the left of the origin, so the negative half cannot be skipped.
Page one carries a reference on the four quadrants, a grid running from negative eight to eight on both axes, and the numbered list of pairs in five lines. Section B asks six questions about quadrants, reflections and distance; Section C asks three that need a written explanation.
The answer key on page three shows the finished picture on the same grid, so a teacher can compare shapes rather than checking eighteen coordinates one at a time.
How to Use This Lesson
Print the worksheet. Page one carries the grid and the list of pairs.
Review which direction a negative x and a negative y each mean.
Have students plot every point in a line before connecting any of them.
Compare the finished shape with the picture on page three.
