About this worksheet
This mystery graph art worksheet gives students 27 ordered pairs in 7 lines to plot in all four quadrants (x and y from -10 to 10). Plotted and joined in order, they make a picture, and nothing on the student pages says what it is, so the picture itself tells students whether they plotted carefully: a misplotted point shows up as a dent in the outline.
Page 1 has the numbered list of points and a short guide to plotting with negative coordinates. Page 2 is a full-page grid. Page 3 asks six questions about the points (the lowest point, the quadrant of a point, reflecting a point across an axis, the length of a line that crosses an axis, a point on an axis and naming a nearby point) and three to answer in complete sentences. Page 4 is the answer key with the finished picture.
It comes in two editions: a color PDF and a low-ink black-and-white PDF for everyday copying.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the plotting guide on page 1 together and plot the first two points as a class.
Plot every point in a line before connecting any of them, then connect them in order.
Lift your pencil between lines, and close a line back to its first point unless the list says not to.
Answer Sections B and C, then check the picture and every answer against page 4.
