About this worksheet

Plotting practice usually ends with a page of dots and no way to tell a right answer from a wrong one until the key comes out. A mystery graph checks itself: a point plotted in the wrong place puts a visible dent in the outline, and the student sees it before the teacher does.

Page one carries a reference on reading an ordered pair, a fourteen-by-fourteen grid, and the numbered list of pairs, grouped into five lines so the student knows where to lift the pencil. Section B asks six questions about the finished picture, and Section C asks three that need a written explanation.

The answer key on page three shows the finished picture on the same grid, so a teacher can compare shapes at a glance rather than checking fifteen coordinates one at a time.

Remind students to count across before they count up.

Have students plot every point in a line before connecting any of them.
