About this worksheet
This worksheet has 7 division word problems, with 1-digit and 2-digit divisors. Each one needs long division, and each one asks the student to picture what the remainder means: sometimes it is the answer, sometimes it means one more van or row, sometimes it is dropped because only complete groups count, and sometimes there is none. The questions describe situations rather than repeating a rule, so the student has to think about each one.
A reference box at the top of page 1 describes the four situations, and a worked example shows one of them solved in the bracket. Every problem has a tall box for the long division and a line for the answer with its label. Page 4 is the answer key: each answer with a few words on what happened to the remainder, and every problem’s long division worked step by step.
It comes in two editions: a full-color PDF and a low-ink black-and-white PDF for everyday copying.
