Length & Height
Length and height are ways of measuring how long or how tall something is. In the United States, we commonly measure length and height using inches, feet, and yards. There are 12 inches in 1 foot and 3 feet in 1 yard.
To convert feet to inches, multiply the number of feet by 12. For example, if something is 5 feet tall, it is 5 × 12 = 60 inches tall. To convert inches to feet, divide the number of inches by 12.
The Empire State Building in New York City stands at 1,453 feet 8⅛ inches tall. That is an impressive height! To figure out how many inches tall it is (using the rounded height of 1,453 feet), you would multiply: 1,453 × 12 = 17,436 inches. The number of inches is always much larger than the number of feet — that’s because there are 12 inches in every foot.
