Lesson Overview
Introduction to Geometry
Geometry begins with the most basic building blocks: a point is a location in space with no dimension; a line extends infinitely in both directions through at least two points; a plane is a flat surface extending infinitely in all directions. Coplanar points lie on the same plane. These concepts form the foundation for all further study in geometry.
This six-page lesson introduces geometry vocabulary and concepts with detailed definitions and visual examples. Topics include points, lines, planes, coplanar points, two-dimensional shapes, and basic properties. Students complete practice problems that test both recall and application. The answer key covers all problems.
How to Use This Lesson
1. Read the introduction and vocabulary section (pages 1–3) as a class. Draw diagrams on the board to illustrate points, lines, and planes.
2. Work through the examples (pages 4–5) together. Have students identify geometric elements in classroom objects.
3. Assign the practice problems independently. Review answers using the key on page 6.
