Geometry Shapes
Geometry is the branch of mathematics that studies shapes, sizes, and the properties of figures and spaces. Every shape has specific properties that make it unique. Understanding geometric shapes helps us describe and understand the world around us.
Two-dimensional (2D) shapes are flat figures with length and width but no depth. Common 2D shapes include circles, triangles, squares, rectangles, pentagons, hexagons, and octagons. Each shape is defined by the number of sides it has and the angles between those sides.
Three-dimensional (3D) shapes have length, width, and depth. Common 3D shapes include cubes, spheres, cylinders, cones, and pyramids. We see 3D shapes everywhere — a basketball is a sphere, a can is a cylinder, and a box is a rectangular prism.
