Finding Midpoints of Line Segments
The midpoint of a line segment is the point exactly halfway between its two endpoints. To find it, average the x-coordinates and average the y-coordinates of the endpoints: M = ((x₁ + x₂) / 2, (y₁ + y₂) / 2). The lesson introduces this formula and walks through finding midpoints on the coordinate plane.
The six-page lesson covers the midpoint formula with worked examples using both positive and negative coordinates. Students complete 20 practice problems and check their work using the answer key on page 6.
How to Use This Lesson
1. Introduce the midpoint concept and formula (pages 1–2). Show midpoints visually on the coordinate plane.
2. Work through midpoint formula examples together (pages 3–4). Practice with positive and negative coordinates.
3. Assign the 20 practice problems (page 5) independently. Review answers using the key on page 6.
