About this worksheet
This worksheet has 18 subtraction problems written in columns, the way they are solved by hand. A dashed box above each digit of the top number holds the new digits after regrouping, with room for two marks, so the regrouping is written down instead of kept in the student’s head. A worked example at the top shows the boxes in use.
Page 3 has the two word problems. Page 4 is the answer key, and it shows every regrouping mark above its column as well as each answer, including both marks when a column gives 1 away and then borrows, so a teacher can see whether a wrong answer came from the regrouping or the facts.
It comes in two editions: a full-color PDF and a low-ink black-and-white PDF for everyday copying.
