About this worksheet
An exponent is a short way to show repeated multiplication: the base is the number being multiplied and the exponent tells how many times. This worksheet builds fluency reading and evaluating powers, then applies them to area, volume, and comparing powers.
The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box explains the base and the exponent with two worked examples. Section A has six powers to evaluate. Section B on page 2 has four word problems about a square’s area, a cube’s volume, rewriting a product as a power, and comparing 4 squared with 2 to the fourth.
Page 3 is a complete answer key with every value and the setup for each word problem. The worksheet pairs well with the Order of Operations and Area of Rectangles worksheets.
