About this worksheet
To estimate a sum or difference, you round each number to the nearest ten or hundred first, then add or subtract the rounded numbers. This worksheet teaches estimation as a quick way to check that an exact answer is reasonable, and has students estimate before computing.
The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box works one rounded-sum and one rounded-difference example. Section A has six estimation problems. Section B on page 2 has four word problems.
Page 3 is a complete answer key with the estimate for every problem. The worksheet pairs well with the Rounding to the Nearest 10 and 100 and Three-Digit Addition worksheets.
How to Use This Lesson

Estimate the six problems in Section A on page 1.
