Writing Rules and Building Function Tables
A function table organizes input and output values based on an equation rule. Given the rule, students substitute each input to find the output and record the results. The lesson shows how to write the rule, set up the table, and fill it in systematically.
The five-page lesson walks through equation rules and table creation with worked examples. Students complete 20 practice problems and check their work using the answer key on page 5.
How to Use This Lesson
1. Review equation rules and completing given function tables (pages 1–2). Reinforce input/output vocabulary.
2. Practice creating function tables from given rules together (pages 3–4). Have students build and fill their own tables.
3. Assign the 20 practice problems (page 4) independently. Review answers using the key on page 5.
