Lesson Overview
About this worksheet
This is the basic level in a leveled set of three Kindergarten counting worksheets. Every level is Kindergarten – they step up by number range so a teacher can hand each child the right level: numbers to 5, to 10, and to 20. This one covers numbers 0 to 5.
The worksheet moves through four kinds of practice. Children read the numbers on cards, trace each numeral on a guide line, count groups of shapes (arranged in ten-frames) and write how many, then circle every copy of one target number hidden in a grid. It builds the core Kindergarten skills of counting to tell how many and writing numerals 0-20.
The last page is a complete Teacher Answer Key. It gives the count for each group and the number of times the target number appears, so an aide or parent can check a child’s work quickly.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the Number Bank aloud together, then have children read the number cards on their own.
Model tracing the first numeral, reminding children to start each number at the top.
Have children count each group of shapes and write the number in the box.
Have children circle every copy of the target number in the grid and count how many they found.
Use the answer key to check, and hand a stronger or emerging counter a different level of this set.
