About this worksheet

This worksheet has 10 area model problems. Each factor is broken into its place values along the sides of a rectangle, and the student writes the product of the two parts in every box, then adds the boxes on the line below. A worked example (63 × 4) shows the whole method.

Section A multiplies 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers, and Section B uses two 2-digit numbers, with the place values already written on the sides. In Section C the student writes the place values first. Page 3 is the answer key: every side label, every box and every sum.

It comes in two editions: a full-color PDF and a low-ink black-and-white PDF for everyday copying.

How to Use This Lesson

Read the reference box and the worked example together.

Multiply the two parts that meet in each box and write the product inside.

Add the boxes on the line under each rectangle.

Check every box and sum against page 3.
