About this worksheet
This worksheet turns addition and subtraction within 20 practice into a picture. Every square in the grid holds a problem, and the answer decides the color of that square. Some squares add and some subtract, so the grid is not a page of one operation. When all 72 squares are colored, a star appears, so a student can see for themselves whether the work went right.
Section A fills page 1 with the grid and its color key, printed large because the squares have to be colored by hand. Section B on page 2 asks for ten more problems in writing, without the picture, so the skill is tested on its own. Page 3 is the answer key: the finished grid beside the color key, so it can be graded at a glance.
It comes in two editions: a full-color PDF and a low-ink black-and-white PDF for everyday copying, both with the same answer key.
